This involves notifying known creditors, publishing a notice for unknown creditors, and carefully vetting every claim to ensure it is legitimate before paying it with estate funds.
Finally, there are taxes. The estate may need a final income tax return for the decedent, an income tax return for the estate itself, and potentially a state or federal estate tax return. These are not simple filings, and mistakes can be costly. We work alongside accountants to ensure all tax obligations are met and that the estate is administered in a tax-efficient manner.
